Agreed, HAC. I've hugged a few trees in my life, especially my favorites - redwoods. So majestic, so 'eternal' (compared to us). And I love living in the tall Ponderosa for the clean, fresh air I never knew growing up in smog-filled LA. But I'll cut one down for a house or burn one in a wood stove if need be. Let's be practical about things.
As to radiation, people are going off the irrational deep end. Japan will get what it deserves for letting engineers cut corners on nuke plant design/construction, and placing them ON fault lines near the ocean. And so will we some day when Kommifornia's San Onofre and Canyon Diablo plants are damaged. On second thought, that might be a good thing, considering the makeup of the population there, now.
