Yet Another Taboo Slowly Bites The Dust
Just as it is now permissible to speak openly about the problems caused by unlimited Third World immigration, as it was not even a few years ago, so it is now becoming less and less dangerous to speak of one of the major facts of American political life for the past century--the Jewish lobby.
It used to be that even to broach the idea of a Jewish lobby was unacceptable, even though the existence of Jewish power in America has long been a quietly acknowledged and accepted fact. It just wasn't ever spoken of in what is mis-named "polite society," even in situations where the truth of the situation was glaring, lest the speaker be exposed to the ghastly and undefendable accusation of "anti-Semitism," the merest whisper of which was professional and career death.
It has always been acknowledged that there were after all certain people who lobby (read manipulate the government) for various Jewish issues, including, of course, Israel. The preponderance of Jews working in Hollywood and the fact that Jews own the New York Times were facts of life in the entertainment and journalistic worlds and everyone simply understood that any criticism of Israel, however mild, was verboten. Jewish influence and covert control of our world was one of several 2000-pound elephants in America's parlor that everyone politely pretended did not exist.
Yet now, more and more people are turning around and asking out loud, "Hey, did you know there is a large elephant sitting in our parlor?" Recently a 12,000-word article by two eminent professors—Stephen Walt, the academic dean of Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and John Mearsheimer, a professor of political science at the University of Chicago—appeared in the London Review of Books under the title "The Israel Lobby."
The article finally spoke aloud in a mainstream forum what has heretofore been unspeakable--that the foreign policy of the United States and Europe is hopelessly skewed and under the thumb of Israel, that the United States' unwavering support for Israel through thick and thin and despite any atrocity has alienated the entire Muslim world and created terrorism where none was before, and that $3 billion a year we give in direct assistance, as well as the decades of unequivocal military and diplomatic support America has provided, is justified by neither strategic nor moral imperatives and is in fact counterproductive, short-sighted, immoral, and ultimately self-defeating and suicidal.
Israel might have been a strategic asset during the Cold War, as a forward air field, although even that was always a stretch and what with things like the 1970s oil embargo, even in the old days Israel was more trouble than it was worth. But with the end of the Cold War, any strategic justification for Israel's existence has disappeared, and it simply no longer makes sense to continue alienating over a billion people for the sake of a handful of Jewish criminals on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean.
The two and a half thousand dead and twenty-odd thousand maimed Americans in the now pointless and endless Iraq war are directly the result of our country and our president serving Jewish interests, not American ones. Israel routinely ignores U.S. requests to comport themselves like civilized human beings and stop building settlements, end targeted assassinations of critics and opponents, and stop stealing everything from water to olive groves from the hapless Palestinians.
Israel maintains a massive nuclear arsenal, the very excuse now being used to prepare for a deranged American neo-con attack on Iran. Put bluntly: within the very near future the American people are going to be faced very clearly with a choice: Israel or us. Let's hope they decide finally to DUMP ISRAEL and the neo-con politicians who serve it.
